10 Minute Solution: Slim and Sculpt Pilates-with Pilates Band

Simple, challenging, and fun!
This is hands-down one of the best Pilates DVDs I have ever tried and exactly what I'd been looking for. I like the 10 Minute Solution series in general and have both Pilates DVDs by Lara Hudson. However, I feel that "10 Minute Solution: Slim & Sculpt" Pilates lead by instructor, Suzanne Bowen (who gives excellent demonstration by the way) far outshines both of Lara's for several reasons. For one, her movements are overall safer and much simpler, generally sticking to more traditional Pilates routines - and it's far more effective. I definitely felt this working my entire body by incorporating the use of the Pilates resistance band, which offers a very similar effect to Pilates machines. The workout is divided into five 10 minute segments - each for the upper body, lower body, abdominals, a total body routine, and a stretch - which can effectively be combined or done separately. This is also one of the few Pilates DVDs on the market that is on the higher end challenge-wise, that is...

Perfect Pilates addition
This is another winner for the 10 Minute Solutions series and another wonderful pilates addition. I cannot say how much I love the 10 Minute series, which allows me to workout for as little or as long as my schedule allows, plus provides effective workouts and this one is no different! I loved the other pilates dvds in this series, but this one is unique in that you use a resistance band with it, which I love. It gives an added "umph" to get toned even quicker with the band. The moves are very effective and unique. The instructor, Suzanne Bowen, gives wonderful cuing, very helpful in describing the moves before they are done and gives good modifications when possible. She is easy to follow and listen to. The different workouts, each targeted to a different area of the body and then a stretching segment, really are fun and get the job of toning and slimming the body done! I am very excited to have added this to my collection!

10 Minute Solution delivers again :-P
As always, you get five different 10 minute segments here and a 6 foot resistance band. I like the fact that you can do either 10 minutes only, or close to an hour if you put them all together. Everyone can do at least 10 minutes and then before you know it, you could be at the end and have done 50 minutes.
In each of the segments, you work specific body parts like lower body and upper, total body, abs and a stretch. You can do these in any order you like and that keeps it interesting and fresh. With the band, you can hold it in different positions to give yourself more of a challenge (like making it shorter to up the resistance).
Suzanne Bowen is a good instructor and she is friendly and cues really well. This workout is fun and easy enough to do and I especially love the stretch. I like doing this whole workout in different orders each time (keeping the stretch till the end though) to not let myself get bored. I'm really enjoying this (I got it at another online...

Python

Pretty Decent Flick
If your into B-Movies as much as I am, then this film is for you. True, the acting, CGI effects, and plot is a bit lower then normal standards (but hey, is a B-movie ever above standards). Just by the title "PYTHON", you know your into a cornfest. Best advice when seeing this, don't have high expectations.

If you ignore the fact that this is a B-movie, and set your acting and CGI standards lower then from something like "STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH" (actually...MUCH lower), then you may get a kick out of this flick.

Snnnaaaaaakkkeeee!
Okay let me start by saying this movie does not take itself seriously. Whew! Too many times a film of this kind can't quite figure out what it wants to be. Not a problem here. It's all tounge and cheek . William Zabka(The bully from the Karate Kid and Just one of the Guys) Plays Deputy Greg, a Small town Deputy Sherrif Who just never left town to become that hotshot FBI agent. He's got bigger problems, seems a military flight carring a VERY LARGE and VERY HUNGARY Experimental Snake has gone down in the woods surrounding the small town of Ruby. The rest as they say is history. Robert England and Casper Van Dien also show up to hunt the Great and Hungary Beast The Dvd itself has some nice extras and a great 3D Menu. It looks and sounds great. If you liked Anaconda you'll like Python.

awesome b-movie
I saw this at my local video store and grabbed it without thinking twice. I got it for several reasons. One being that Wil Wheaton was in it and the other being i love my monster movies. This is exactly what one might expect. Atrocious acting by a somewhat talented and recognizable cast, TERRIBLE snake effects, but a satisfying amount of gore, and "leave you hanging" non-sex scenes. All in all, it was a load of fun and it was great for late-night viewing. I had a fun time with the over-the-top performances and seeing the results of the snake effects. There was very little nudity but be warned: Those expecting to see Jenny McCarthy in the buff will be sorely dissapointed. My only complaint was that one character i liked got killed and Keith Coogan, (Brad from adventures in Babysitting and Cheetah) who is billed in the opening credits, doesn't show up until the end for one speaking part and it is after the snake "problem" has been resolved. Great film for...

Max Lucado 3:16 - Stories of Hope

Hope for all
This DVD is easy to watch--each chapter of Lucado's book is summarized in a five minute or less movie clip. You can watch one or all of the chapters and feel the flicker of hope that John 3:16 offers. There is also a short story on this DVD about a prodigal daughter and her coming back to her daddy. A great gift to give anyone.

Animal 2

Good Sequel.......
I just rented and watched this movie, and despite Darius (Terrance Howard in the 1st one) being replaced by Vicellous Shannon this was a good sequel. It has a lot of action in it. I will definitely buy this when it available!

Really Disappointing
I haven't seen the first one but given that it's starring Ving Rhames as a prison fighter you would think that this movie is action packed. WRONG.

There's only a handful of fights and they're all pretty tame back and forth stuff. It really isn't entertaining to watch except when Animal climbed the cell bars to do a WWE elbow drop.

Most of the movie follows his two sons, the oldest trying to be guardian of the younger one. The younger bro gets into trouble with the law for getting into stupid situations and now his older brother has to try and prove his innocence. He does this by storming the public defender's office and sayig "Are you the public pretender?" and proceeds to insult her saying he knows she doesn't care but that she "needs" to get his brother free because he's innocent. Then he insults her some more. If that were me I would have kicked that fool out of my office for coming with that stupid stereotypical attitude and tell him I hope his brother rots...

quality storytelling
I found myself really getting into this movie as it went along.

I haven't seen the first Animal, but the movie was about a father who goes to jail, and fights people (fights for his LIFE, in fact) because a dishonest "religious" man forces him to. I never could tell if the guy was seriously religious or just pretending to be. This guys performance, while exaggerated a bit, was pretty entertaining.

The movie centers around the fathers kids, and well, I won't spoil anything, but the storyline progresses into some pretty interesting directions that I honestly didn't see coming until about halfway through. His kids play a big part that involves a pretty crazy story.

I can honestly say this is a pretty good movie that starts out a little slow and predictable, but develops into a more interesting storyline slowly and carefully.

Lake Placid

"I will NOT calm down! This is the second time I've been hit with a severed head and I DON'T LIKE IT!"
In LAKE PLACID, Stan Winston's special effects bring to life a monster lurking in the depths of a dark lake.

At the beginning of this story set in Maine, the sheriff (Gleeson) pulls a diver out of the water whose lower half is completely gone. The man is still alive when brought into the boat, but not for long. The creature responsible for his death is a 30-foot-long crocodile that an old lady (White) who lives on the lake has been feeding for six years, first with bits of bread when it was a baby and now with whole cows!

There's some scary moments and some sily ones, but the comedy misfires more than it works. "Lake Placid" is in the end a fairly brief and only so-so horror film.

Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 IMDb viewer poll rating.

Don't Say a Word

Brittany Murphy Does It Again!
The TV ads for this movie had made me want to rush to the theaters to see this film, but alas, I had to wait for it to come out on video before actually viewing this great flick. The movie is full of action and nail-biting suspense. Michael Douglas plays a successful psychiatrist in private practice who is asked by a colleague to interview a perplexing patient. The patient, played exquisitely by Brittany Murphy, is perceived as a paranoid schizophrenic by some, delusional by others, a real puzzle to the psychiatric community. As Dr. Conrad (Douglas) delves into the case, he discovers that Patient Barrows' (Murphy) case isn't as complicated as it seems. However, his successful attempts to reach the patient have drawn some undesireable attention. It seems that Conrad's patient has a very important number locked deep inside her disturbed mind and someone is willing to do anything to get that number. That someone, played by Sean Bean, kidnaps Conrad's daughter and threatens to kill...

Check out the Brittany Murphy Audition on the DVD
This thriller is full of very strong performances. Of very special note is Brittany Murphy. On the DVD is Brittany Murphy's audition, which is nothing less than searing; some of the most powerful acting I have ever seen. Even if you don't watch the movie, watch the audition. The audition performance is considerably more intense than the same scene in the movie because it has no cuts, no breaks. It is just one 5 minute long take. It is like going 5 minutes without blinking. Powerful stuff. One can envision the producers getting the funding to complete the movie on the basis of this audition alone.

Actually all the actors are very good, Michael Douglas, Famke Janssen, who plays Michael Douglas's wife and Skye McCole Bartusiak who is their daughter are all attractive and winning. Skye McCole Bartusiak as the daughter deserves special note as she imbues that role with a sweet intelligence. The good guys are attractive and we care about them. Sean Bean, the bad guy, has a...

Sleek, suspenseful entertainment....
I read a couple of negative reviews of DON'T SAY A WORD when it first came out. I have to wonder if we saw the same movie. I think too many people over-analyze thrillers, instead of allowing themselves to be entertained. More than any other genre, thrillers rely on your visceral reaction to what's going on, not the logical. Don't get me wrong, logic is important to thrillers, otherwise they're not believable. But after a certain point, you should just let the film entertain you. DON'T SAY A WORD does just that.

Michael Douglas plays a celebrated child psychiatrist married to a gorgeous amazon (the talented and underrated Famke Janssen, easily the most beautiful woman in the world), with a six-year old daughter (Sky Cole Bartusiak) who, unlike most child characters in thrillers, is not irritating and cloying. Anyhow, the family's thanksgiving plan are disrupted when the munchkin is abducted in the middle of the night by a gang of jewel thieves (led by the equally talented and...

Chill Out Scooby-Doo! - Original Movie

3.5 maybe--enjoyable and not too scary...
This movie features the whole Mystery, Inc. gang, although Scooby and Shaggy feature prominently in the first half. The duo gets stranded in the Himalayas with some locals, and they all soon meet up with the abominable snowman. My son (age 4) likes this one, but it's not his favorite, since he seems to prefer the ones with scarier monsters (ghost pirates and mummies as seen in other Scooby movies). This one does have some cool new music, and it even features a funny scene where Shaggy (aka Casey Kaseem) tries his hand a being a d.j. It's a clever nod to those of us who remember Casey's days on the radio. Finally, the resolution of "who is the abominable snowman?" turns out to be typical Scooby.

Chill Out: Scooby Doo
Chill Out: Scooby Doo is family fun at it's best. Scooby, Shaggy and the gang are supposed to go to Paris, but Scooby and Shaggy end up on the wrong flight and what follows is a laugh out loud and scary good time, but not according to Shaggy and Scooby. This movie features the return of Fan Favorite Del Chillman previously seen in Scooby Doo and The Loch Ness Monster as a Nessy fanatic, who provides some comic relief. Del is equally funny in Chill Out: Scooby Doo. Shaggy, Daphne and Velma provided some of Chill Out: Scooby Doo's best lines. This is a fun movie and it's also one Scooby's Classic movies of all time.

Scooby Doo movie
Great movie - I love the fact that Shaggy (who's voice is done by the legendary Casey Kasem) gets to do a radio DJ show - classic!!

Great for kids and adults!!!

My-Hime Z: My-Otome Volume 2

It's getting a little better
Arika has gained admittance to Garderobe Academy, but there are people have it in for her. The incident with the uniform was only the beginning. Maki set a trap for her in swimming class that went terribly wrong, and the Queen also dislikes her. In this volume, the Queen and Arika end up getting in a bit of a bind. The only way for them to survive is to form a contract. Upon sealing their contract, they are able to escape. Since they dislike each other, they keep it a secret and try to find a way to nullify their contract. This DVD has a little more action and character development than the 1st one, but I still don't think this series will live up to the original My Hime.

VOLUME 2 NOT BAD
5 STARS again because the action/adventure with comedy.IT was worth watching & buying +it is well done and well made.Once again ARIKA makes it funny with others. Now i do not like the speeches of war and death. But the themes about making friends i like very much.

Buy it on sale
I enjoyed this Anime collection very much. You can find other reviews that will tell you all you could want to know about the story and content. So in summation it was amusing and enjoyable.
In its way as good as the original My-Hime. Buying from sellers of good used dvds I bought this collection for a price a little less than a collection box set would normally cost. The shipping cost can be reduced if you go directly to the sellers web site when ordering more than one item. Make sure you can trust them.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol

Still my favorite musical version of Dicken's classic story
"Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" has always been my favorite musical version of Dicken's classic tale for the simple reason that the songs have been better than all those other versions, including the most recent attempt with Kelsey Grammar. Since the music and lyrics are by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, the same team that did "Funny Girl," this is not surprising. I have just finished watching the show again and I finally noticed that there are only four songs. They just happen to be four really good songs and even when there is not singing three of them are used to great effect as background music. No wonder that as soon as you hear the opening theme on the DVD the feelings and memories coming rushing back.

Once you get past the framing device of Magoo showing up for the performance and taking a curtain call as he brings down the house at the start and the end of the show there are only a few moments where you are dealing with Mr. Magoo's nearsightedness. For the most part...

This made-for-TV "Carol" has endured
I thoroughly enjoyed "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" when it first was broadcast on television back in 1962. Not only did it feature the then well-known lovable bumbler Magoo, as played by the great Jim Backus, but the musical score was absolutely wonderful. All of the songs in this "Broadway"-style rendition are catchy, and some of them are truly touching and memorable.

Since this brief animated production was created nearly forty years ago, there have been countless new "Christmas Carol" productions featuring everyone from George C. Scott to the Muppets to Fred Flintstone (really!) And yet the VHS release of the Magoo version, still apparently as appealing now as it was decades ago, is my own children's favorite version of Dickens' classic yuletide tale. In fact, my younger son at age three used to beg me to play this video again and again at Christmastime, calling it "Back, Back, Back," based upon the opening song in which Magoo sings about...

Frosty the Snowman & Frosty Returns

Timeless Rankin and Bass Christmas Classic Paired With An Unfortunate "Update".
While it is a total joy to have the classic Rankin and Bass Christmas classic "Frosty the Snowman", on DVD what is disappointing is that it is unfortunately paired on this DVD with a dour "update", of the adventures of the most famous Snowman in the world titled "Frosty Returns", that is a clear victim of "politically correct", agendas. The original 1969 classic "Frosty the Snowman", is a story beloved by generations of television viewers with its catchy tunes, beautiful animation, likeable characters, and unabashed celebration of Christmas and all its traditions. "Frosty Returns", however is seemingly driven by a desire to down play the importance of Christmas traditions altogether, indeed Christmas amazingly is never even referred to once in the story, being instead replaced by a rather unfortunate "Winter festival". Imagining Frosty the Snowman without Christmas is like trying to picture Rudolph without his shiny nose! While the original has charm aplenty "Frosty Returns", also...

Fabulous Frosty! But I want more!
Well, what can I say about "Frosty the Snowman?" It is another Rankin/Bass treat that has stood the test of time and become a permanent part of Christmas. It is really great to see these classics making their way to DVD. Frosty is a five star cartoon.

The DVD itself is a little lackluster, and I was tempted not to buy it. There is an introduction by Arthur Rankin Jr. that is much appreciated. It is not unlike the introduction he gives on the Rudolph DVD. The real disappointment comes with the second feature "Frosty Returns." This is not a Rankin/Bass feature, and is particularly poorly done. It looks and sounds like a cheap knock-off. I honestly think that they used recycled "Peanuts" animation. It is really bad.

With the wealth of Rankin/Bass material, including other snowman features like "Frosty's Winter Wonderland" or "Christmas in July," it is a shame to see this classic paired with such a dog. Look to "Year Without a Santa Claus" to see a great treatment of Rankin/Bass...

Frosty good/ Frosty Returns is a stinker
"Frosty the Snowman" is a classic along with The Little Drummer Boy, Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

"Frosty Returns" is an Eco-terrorist heist of Christmas. It talks about Winter Festivals, Fertility Goddesses, and evil Big Business. Not one word of Christmas, without which there is no point in the story.

The environmental extremism ruins the story. Plus the songs are stinkers. You've never heard any of them on a Chrsitmas album, unless Green Peace has one....

My suggestion is buy the DVD and figure out how to scratch out Frosty Returns so you won't get snow burned next year.

I would pay twice the price to be able to buy the DVD WITHOUT Frosty Returns.

Naked Brothers Band: Battle of the Bands

Ten Year Old daughter in Heaven...
Okay, so my kid, now 10, gave up piano years ago. But now wishes she was in The Band! Instead she just follows every move these kids make. I told her she should get back into lessons and she too could be a star. Well, maybe. Anyway, I love that these kids actually have a bit of comedic timing and seem to enjoy every minute they are on camera. I know their parents (Nat and Alex Wolff's Mom and Dad are actor/director and pro musician respectively) are very talented and look like they are having fun with the show too. Get it for your kid if they are a fan. They'll dig it and it's all good fun and totally family friendly. Now we hope her uncle can get their autograph next time we go to LA. He claims to know someone that works with them who is famous in her own right. Cool!

The movie isn't as innocent as it seems..
I wouldn't say this movie is totally family friendly. For a kids show, it has several sexual references. Nat Wolff pats Rosalina on her butt. They also showed a teen couple kissing really passionately. The youngest band member swears a lot, but replaces them with other words ("poo-poo sauce").
The band members mocked the only girl in the band because she had a crush on a rival band member.

Still, I give it 3 stars since it shows that kids can write music and put together a band and even if they fight, they can make up later.

My 15yr. old daughter has taking a liking to these guys again.
My 15yr. old daughter has taking a liking to these guys again. She used to watch them when they were on the TV. Then along came Justin Leave it to Bieber ( I'm stuck on myself, don't care about my young fans anymore, just buy my songs so I can party like Miley C. etc..) and she fell in love like the rest of young girls. But now she has seen how he treats his fans. So down came the posters and delete his songs from her mp3 player and she remembered The Naked Brothers Band didn't let the fame get to their heads like others. So she is really interested in them again!! Trust me these guys are alright!

Delta Farce (Widescreen Edition)

In the Army Now meets The Three Amigos
That is exactly what this movie is. Its not an intellectual comedy. There is very little plot development, the characters don't evolve much, and its not filled with special effects or hard-core action scenes to make up the difference. So why in all the world did I give it four stars? I liked it because although not hilarious, it is funny. The characters are actually likeable. And the story wasn't really important to pay attention to. It is very mindless. You don't need to think while you watch this movie so its perfect for the work day from h-e-double hockey sticks. I would classify it more as a wind down movie. If you want a gut-wrenchingly funny comedy, this isn't the movie you're looking for. If you are just looking for something simple to watch, this is an excellent choice.

Methinks Thou Doth Protest Too Much !
The reviews, with the exception of John Nelson's, are way off. I've found that 99% of the time, when someone doesn't like or hates a comedian is because they don't understand the humour. This has to be the case here. Larry and Bill Engvall are two of the funniest comedians alive. They don't have to work blue to get millions and millions of people to like them. Maybe people don't like this movie because of several reasons ---
A. They don't understand funny things (most probable)

B. They know/are related to rednecks (ie. real people) and are embarrassed

C. They think that to be funny, a movie/comedian has to be really intellectual, high brow, and dry-witted. What's wrong with fart humour ? As my favourite DJ says about his morning show "booger, booger, fart, fart, weiner"

D. They're jealous because they're just like Larry or Bill and aren't famous themselves

E. They think that every movie has to be Oscar quality. This isn't the case. Not...

Delta Farce
I'll make it short and sweet. Highly recommended. Clean fun movie with no BOOBS

GET R DONE!

I don't understand all the negative reviews.. People now a days want blood and guts..

30 Rock: Season One

Best new comedy of 2006-2007
Bizarrely, NBC debuted two new series in 2006-2007 that were behind-the-scenes looks at fictional TV shows that bore astonishing resemblences to SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Aaron Sorkin's STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP, the more highly touted of the two, did set its fictional SNL on the West Coast, but never really caught on with critics or with many fans and was eventually cancelled. On the other hand, 30 ROCK was an immediate hit with critics and gradually built more and more of a fan base. Though the ratings were never especially strong, NBC has perhaps the best track record of any current network for sticking with quality shows and attempting to nurture a fan base (on any other network both 30 ROCK and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS would have been cancelled well before the end of the season). Hopefully more fans will discover this superb show and its long term future will be assured.

While the Sorkin series had very tenuous SNL credentials, 30 ROCK's are iron clad. It was created...

5 STARS per episode x 21 = 100+!! Tina Fey is a genius
Okay..
I think TV stinks. A good friend of mine kept trying to get me to watch this show and I just wasn't interested. For some reason I picked up this set and in a matter of a few days blasted through the whole season. This is ridiculously funny AND intelligent stuff. I am absolutely stunned that the lead actress , Tina Fey, is also the creator AND the writer!! If you don't know just how insane that is....all I can say is its humbling to witness such an incredible talent. If your IQ reaches triple digits you will LOVE this show. Like all great sitcoms and this IS great...it operates on several levels and has multiple story lines working that all integrate perfectly. The acting is wonderful as the cast was assembled well and I must add that Alec Baldwin is just so funny its shocking.

Hilarious
"30 Rock" is an example of the rare brilliant comedy that is not going to appeal to the masses. It's too frenetic, filled with lightning quick wit balanced with unabashed slapstick. And it makes it probably the best comedy on TV today, much more likely to induce a belly laugh than the entertaining, but more restrained, "Office." Like under-appreciated 00's comedies that preceded it ("Scrubs," "Arrested Development"), "30 Rock" and its pitch-perfect ensemble, led by Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin, will probably shine best among a small group of devotees who don't like their comedy served in cookie-cutter fashion.

Great show!
This is a brilliant show- they can spoonfeed me a few episodes every couple months and I'll be happy! Hollywood, please pay your writers for their internet work- you know you'll make money on it eventually. You're forgetting that the writers are the reason you will make that profit at all!

You gotta be effin' kidding me!
They are going to split up THIS series into two volumes?!?! I may be done buying television show DVD sets. Greedy a-holes....

Kinda lame
I watched 30 Rock again from the beginning. I LOVE it ! Don't understand why I wrote a ho-hum review the first time around. It is smart and funny and sarcastic. Love Love LOVE it. Buy it, NOW. 5 stars !!

30 Rock: Season One, Vol. 2

What a rip off . . .
I have no idea why they split this up into two volumes. Volume 2 is only one disc that has like 5 episodes on it. They have a complete season 1 package that is cheaper than buying these two separate.

One of the best recent comedies
Love this show. The situations are funny. No one seems to take themselves too seriously and there are no sanctimonious characters on this show like so many others.

Many Levels of Humor
30 Rock succesfully makes fun of: Saturday Night Live, NBC, parent company GE, entertainment programing executives, black comedians, white comedians, geeks, rednecks, city slickers, women, men, you name it, 30 Rock fries everyone with blatant toilet humor to comedy so sophisticated you have to be an English major to figure it out. There are belly laughs and slow sleeper jokes that take the whole show to develop.
The show is a spoof, within a spoof, within a spoof. Take a look at the epsisode where they make fun of advertising and product placement in TV shows, its laser humor of the first degree toasting NBC, GE, Snapple AND the shows writers all in one great scene.
There is nothing funnier or more smart and dumb at the same time then 30 Rock. A good buy as you will want to re-watch episodes to catch all the jokes

Georgia Rule (Widescreen Edition)

"Courageous"...But Not Particularly Good
Viewing GEORGIA RULE recently I flashed back on a passage from Salinger's FRANNY AND ZOOEY (which I had recently re-read). There is a passage in that book in which a young television actor, speaks disparagingly of scripts that are "courageous," without their necessarily being particularly good. What he's talking about, of course, is the kind of drama that is supposed to be risky and challenging, a bit off beat maybe. "Edgy" might be the current word. That's precisely the kind of dramatic work GEORGIA RULE tries to be. You can just imagine the filmmakers patting themselves (and each other) on the back, congratulating themselves on their frankness and daring.

This is a movie that wants to say SO MUCH--to bravely go where no screenwriter (or director OR producer) would have dared to go before (except that they HAVE, in point of fact). You've got your intergenerational conflict, your intergenerational substance abuse, you've got promiscuous teens--and apparently incestuous...

How do we know we're loved? 4 1/2 stars
Though I don't recall this movie getting great reviews from the critics, I expected at least a decent movie considering the three main stars. I got more than expected. The three lead actresses were well chosen. Jane Fonda, looking exceptionally well at age 70, is outstanding as the grandmother, Georgia, who lives her life by certain 'rules,' hence the title, and who has a history with her daughter, Lilly, (Felicity Huffman), that seems lacking in emotion. 'Seems' is the operative word. While we aren't exactly privy to what has caused this rift between mother and daughter, we glean from one particular scene that Georgia's parents never told HER that they loved her. We gather that Georgia's apparent inability to say the three words, "I love you" to her daughter may simply be because she was not told what she needed to hear from her parents. In one touching scene between Georgia and Lilly, when Lilly asks her mother if she ever loved her, Georgia replies, 'How could I not love...

I watched a different movie than most reviewers
I truly enjoyed this movie. I've always been a Fonda fan. Felicity has never disappointed. And Lindsay shows she is a quality actress, right up there with the other two. In the scene in the boat where she's seducing the guy and they show a close up of just her face, you can see every emotion that crosses her mind.

My biggest difference, however with the reviewers is that they harp on how odd it is to have humor in a film on such a serious topic as sexual abuse. I found this movie to be rather on target with its light hearted moments mixed in with the pain. And then these usually male reviewers go on about was she abused, wasn't she, why doesn't she make up her mind. To me, it seems obvious these fellows have never experienced such abuse personally, nor have they observed, with any care, someone who has. There's no straight line to recovery.

I loved this movie for its story and the acting. Nothing rang false in my book.

Imagine if every city chose a special champion to defeat monstrous mechanical demons -- becoming the armored superhuman known as Karas.

That's the concept behind "Karas - The Prophecy," the first half of a sprawling, lushly animated series about a mystery hero who spans the worlds of demons and humans. The rather underdeveloped characters hamper the story somewhat, but the scintillating animation and explosive action sequences make this a brilliant experience -- and the twisty-turny plot doesn't hurt either.

Two black-armored men engage in an explosive aerial battle, until ex-Karas Eko triumphs over his successor. Three years later, a young doctor named Otoha awakens in an enchanted house, under the command of the city's avatar Yurine.

At around this time, Tokyo is being attacked by the gruesome cyborg demons called Mikura, and harmless small demons are falling seriously ill. Otoha -- the new Karas -- is charged to destroy the Mikura, who are also...

Hello Kitty: Stump Village, Vol. 6 - Work Together

Fun and light video for kids
My 4 year old loves Hello Kitty. I had never seen any of the Stump Village videos before buying this one. This video is narrated, so the characters do not actually speak. There are only four episodes on this video, so compared to most other videos - that may seem a little short. However, the episodes are fun and light. The characters are all shown working together to resolve issues.

My kids love it
My daughter loves hello kitty & specifically asked for a hello kitty movie for her birthday. After reading tons of reviews I decided stump village was the way to go. This particular volume isint scary or violent like some of the other ones I read reviews on. There isint really anything educational about the movie, but you can rest knowing its not going to make your child cry either. My kids love it, so I'm happy.

cute
always been a hello kitty fan so i had to have this. you're never to old for hello kitty =(^-^)=

Burst Angel: East Meets West v.3

I Keep Waiting for It To Step Up
One thing about Burst Angel is that it has a downward flow of story progress. It started out great by presenting strong scenes of action and quickly introducing the cast of characters. In volume two, it slowed a bit but allowed itself to deepen your knowledge of all the main protagonists in the series. And in volume three, it does almost the same thing. I didn't expect that in this volume. I wanted the main conflict to finally present itself in one of the episodes, a kind of hint to the end of the series, but that never happens. And if it did, the hint either wasn't blatant or the end of the series will be a disappointment. Besides that, I still can't give Burst Angel a bad rating. It's a solid series with top-notch animation.

In episodes nine and ten, the series finally moves to single episodes (in previous volumes, all the episodes are two parters). These episodes are based around the story of one of the four women on the team. The first is based on Sei, the second on...

Cartoons!
Fun at its most juvenile materialization of itself! -Great imagination on the part of the artists weaving me through the japanese world of Anime!

BURST ANGEL VOLUME THREE
pretty cool to watch: different for me, but I like it: haven't seen all volumes yet, but I'm getting there

Griffin & Phoenix

This movie will make you rethink your priorities
I actually first caught this movie on the Lifetime Movie Network, and had never heard of it before that. However, I soon found myself engrossed in it. It's not your typical love story, but that's what is so good about it. Two people meet and slowly fall in love, but there's a big secret that each of them has that they're not sharing with the other that ends up making all the difference in how they relate to each other. By the time you finish watching this movie, you'll have rethought everything about your life and how you're living it, and if you have a significant other, you'll both be brought closer by this story. It's a very powerful love that these two people share, made all the more intense by their situation. This may not be a blockbuster, but I highly recommend that anyone who has ever spent their time whining about how hard they have it pick this up and watch it.

A Different Kind of Love Story: Balance in Life
GRIFFIN & PHOENIX is a quiet little made for television film that touches the vulnerable heart. Originally written in 1976 as a television film by John Hill, this thirty-years-later version holds up well, and the fact that audiences will still opt for sensitive stories that treat difficult topics in a mature manner, adding warmly humorous touches to a potentially maudlin idea, speaks well for our continuing tastes.

From the opening frames of the film we learn that Griffin (Dermot Mulroney) has inoperable cancer: his frank and compassionate physician (Lois Smith) aligns him with reality. Griffin is a divorced father of two boys and his first attempt to find meaning in his limited time is to spend time with them, an attempt partially thwarted by his ex-wife. Once a workaholic, Griffin attends a class on death and dying at the university and there he meets the rather strange and isolated Phoenix (Amanda Peet). Griffin's new take on life encourages him to go after the...

Thoughtful and heartfelt.
I didn't know what to expect when I first saw this movie. I thought it would be campy. . . etc. However I was surprised. It is an extremely well-acted film that treats a delicate subject with class and beauty.
The movie starts off humorously enough, with one of the main characters--Griffin (played brilliantly by Dermot Mulroney) finding out some life-altering news. He then meets a woman named Phoenix(Amanda Peet) at university where he has decided to take a class. He falls in love with her, and she with him.
It is a beautiful love story with a twist. It is definitely not your normal love story, as previous people who have reviewed this film would say. This is not a movie for everyone, as this movie can be hard to stomach. Long interludes, slow-moving dialog, and slightly implausible situations, make this movie slightly difficult to watch. However if you can sit through all the quietness, this movie is worth the view at least once.

Internationally Speaking

I always wondered...
Internationally Speaking definitely spoke to me! I have always wondered what the rest of the world thought of the United States. I had a pretty good idea that there are some negative opinions about our actions, but it was interesting, and often embarrassing, to learn of what people from other countries truly think of us. This is a film that should be seen by all Americans. An open mind is required to get the most out of what these people are saying, even if your first reaction is defensive anger. We need to learn a lesson in humility and tolerance. I believe this film is a huge step towards that.

must see
This film provides provocative insight into September 11 and the machinations of the Bush Administration. For too long, we have turned a blind eye to the abuses of the current presidency andright wing fanatics have labelled truth-seekers such as Michael Moore and Noam Chomsky been labelled astraitors or conspiracy nuts. This documentary shows evidence that we have been lied to for years.

A MUST-SEE for all Americans
I purchased this film without knowing anything about it (other than Noam Chomsky was in it). I was amazed! I consider myself well informed on the misdirection of the US and its international relationships, but I learned something new from watching this DVD. This is truly a patriot's movie! Watch it and be amazed at how much bigger other nationalities are when compared to many US citizens.

I really like this series. I wish they would have put all the episodes together.

Great show
I think this is a great show. I love the animation style. The only thing I wish was that it was a full season and in widescreen. The opening credits are obvious the show is made in widescreen format but for some reason they crop it fullscreen.

Blue Smoke

Good enough to engage your attention, and keep it...
"Blue smoke" is a fast paced film, based on a novel of the same name written by Nora Roberts. This movie has ingredients of mystery and romance, and is likely to please those that are just looking for entertainment.

The main character is Reena (Alicia Witt), a young woman that doesn't like fire but decides to turn into an arson investigator in order to fight her fear. Things aren't easy for her, though, as she loses people she cares about to fire. Traumatized, Reena begins to suspect that a pyromaniac is stalking her, waiting to kill the people she loves. But is Reena right, or is her imagination too active?

All in all, I think that "Blue smoke" is a movie you shouldn't miss if you are a fan of Robert's books, and one you will probably like if you are not. From my point of view, this is not an outstanding film, but I believe it is good enough to engage your attention, and keep it. That is the reason why I give "Blue smoke" 3.5 stars.

Belen Alcat

Above Average Made for TV Film
Readers of Nora Roberts books will doubtless want to watch this adaptation of one of her popular novels (to date there are four of her books translated into made for television movies). The story, as adapted by Ronni Kern, is straight forward with enough of a mixture of love scenes and action scenes to please the audience. No, this is not a major league film, but it is made with a fine cast of actors who bring the drama to life.

Reena Hale (Alicia Witt) watched as her family's pizzeria burned to the ground after a scuffle between Reena's father Gib (Eric Keenleyside) and neighbor Joe Pastorelli (David Brown). Pastorelli is convicted of arson and swears to get even. Jump years later and Reena is now an arson investigator under the tutelage of Officer John Minger (Scott Bakula) who had solved the case in Reena's family's loss. Once credentialed, Reena finds herself stalked by an arsonist who just happens to include two of Reena's boyfriends as victims of deaths by fire...

Average tv movie
This is the second Nora Roberts adaptation that I've seen, after "Angels Fall", and the first one where I've read the book. The book Blue Smoke was pretty good but not without flaws, and the movie shares some of its flaws. The biggest one is how long it takes for Reena to figure out who her nemesis is (although this was less obvious in the movie than in the book). One bad thing that the movie adds is that the climax feels more silly than suspenseful (especially because the bad guy actor speaks in a really silly voice, supposedly because he had cancer - anyway it was way too over-the-top).

I did like this movie better than "Angels Fall", which somehow felt cheaper. Alicia Witt did a pretty good job playing Reena, but the best performance was by the still very beautiful Talia Shire playing her mother. But overall, it's an average tv-movie, no better or worse than most of its kind, but definitely not good enough for a theatrical release. Recommended for Roberts fans and fans...

Unholy

An Unholy Mess
This movie has very little plot or coherence. It's a stew containing uncooked lumps of time-traveling entities, apparitions in basements, and figments inducing people to commit suicide.

Actually, the director's commentary on this DVD is better than the movie itself. In addition to providing some behind-the-scenes insights into how a bunch of buddies get together to make an Indie film like this, he talks about how he went about casting "Unholy." He says he was sure from the start that he wanted Adrienne Barbeau in the film because he'd remembered her as the all-night DJ in "The Fog," where she'd won him over with her "sexiest voice ever."

Barbeau's presence in "Unholy" is in fact the film's only redeeming virtue. It's good to see her on screen again, but it's unfortunate it had to be in a mishmash like this. So whether you are looking for sex appeal, or for a movie with at least some suspense and semblance of plot - it would in fact be better to go back to the...

What the unholy crap did I just watch?
All I can manage to say about this movie is that I had a ridiculously painful headache after watching it and my mother (who purchased it) made the store take it back even though they didn't refund her money. It is THAT bad. What the hell is going on in this movie? Can somebody tell me and not fall over foaming at the mouth because their brain imploded on itself trying to comprehend it? The only reason it gets one star is because there is no zero or negative star rating. Without a doubt the WORST movie I've ever seen.

OVERLY BIZARRE...PICK A GENRE...
Unholy is not an easy movie to classify...part horror, part sci-fi, part psychological thriller, it isn't great in any one area but it is an interesting `small' movie. I use the word small because the two stars, Barbeau and Brendon, ad onscreen throughout almost the entire film. This isn't a scary movie, per se, but it is creepy. It's one of those films that makes you wonder just what the heck is going on throughout most of the movie but a twist at the end brings everything home.

Barbeau is Martha who returns home with flowers for her teenage daughter, Hope. But Hope has locked herself in the outdoor storm cellar with a gun to her head, babbling incoherently about some experiment...just before she pulls the trigger. Brendon plays older brother Lucas in a role not unlike `Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He's slightly timid and tries to make up for it with humor. Martha wants to know why her daughter would take her own life and what this experiment is that she referred to...

Spider Riders: The Oracle Keys, v.1

good fun 'down under'
Spider Riders details the jouney of our young hero, Hunter Steel, and he follows stories his grandfather told him and seeks out a mystic place called the inner world, hidden deep within the earth. Once our spikey-haired hero (aren't they all spikey-haired?!) arrives at his destination he realizes he has no idea how to get home. Clues to his destiny begin to unfold as he makes friends with Corona, a spider rider, and is invited to join their elite ranks as a defender of the realm. If you like Rave Master and Naruto, you definately want to check out Spider Riders!

A nice surprise
As a teacher, I often hear the students talk of the popular anime series and except for a few exceptions, I usually don't follow the latest in anime creations. By chance, I caught the first few episodes of Spider Riders on a Sunday TV show and enjoyed the pure escapism the series offered. Now, I'll have a series to tell my kids about. As with all "Children's" cartoons, there are the slight puns and play on words for adults to appreciate, as well as the action, doe eyed heroes, and bizzare villians which will please the younger set. While not on a par with The Last Airbender or Neon Genesis, I like this series because there is a solid story that captivates the viewer from episode to episode. On a side note, it was interesting to discover the English version voice of Prince Lumen is the same boy who voiced a minor role in Skyland, a fantastic anime I happened to find on my Xbox video marketplace. I suppose I also appreciate the series since I graduated from the University of Richmond:...

Anime for the Kids
My son loves this anime. No complaints about it, only wish they would come out with the next volume so he can stop buggin' me about it!

Ever Again

Important film but no solutions offered
Ever Again is a powerful film. Costner's narration is a great addition to the film. He speaks clearly and in an appropriate tone I feel fits the scene.

Ever Again presents a horrifying picture of modern anti Semitism, but the film never suggests a solution to the problem or how it is being handled.

Many say the film's stance on criticism of Israel as being anti Semetic is not well thought out. I disagree. Even Israelis criticize their own governement, just as anyone else in the world. What the film is trying to point out is the idea Israel should not exist incites anti Semetic action by groups around the world.

I wish the film makers would have made this idea more clear. It is an important message to take into account and I don't feel everyone who watched the film understood this point unless they had lived through it.

Wow!
A must-see for EVERYONE. As a teacher, this is an invaluable tool for me in showing European antisemitism - I highly recommend owning a copy.

Unbalanced . . . Yet Eye-Opening
Brings to the forefront many incidents showcasing modern anti-Semitism in Europe. But it's approach is incendiary and unbalanced, and in the wrong hands, this documentary could be used as a hate tool against Moslems. Still, sections are extremely eye-opening. Definitely should not be used as an educational tool for young minds who are approaching the topic for the first time.

Nailed

Da F**k is this???
For those of you looking to spend your money on a good movie, DON'T BUY THIS ONE!!! The first part of the movie was interesting, but then it was all downhill from there. There is a voodoo premise that was poorly done. Some research would have been helpful, and might have helped the ending make more sense. The plot was extremely predictable. The "surprise" ending was lame to say the least. The acting was halfway decent, but it couldn't save the movie. There are vague flashbacks throughout the movie that are supposed to tie everything together, but it holds like thin spaghetti. Bottom line is just nail this one in its coffin and bury it quickly!!!

Hidden gem
Having watched horror movies for over 40 years it's hard to find a new wrinkle. This film however does just that. The acting is actually quite good and the cast does a good job in selling the story. Mr Porter gives a frightfully convincing performance and pulls you in so that you can practically feel the fear. The story is well written and not the same old plot that's just retreaded with only a few changes. If you give this movie a chance it will grab you and pull you in before you know it and you will find yourself on the edge of your seat. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a real horror story, the kind until now I didn't think they made anymore. I look forward to seeing more movies like this and hope to see alot more of Charles Porter in front of the camera in the future.

so so bad a movie
These people leaving good reviews are lying. This film was so bad that I rushed to go trade it in the next morning at best buy's dvd trade-in for select blu-ray's sale. I understand the meaning on the film and what happened, but there are still alotta holes. And what is up with the stupid snakes. This movie is so low budget too. I could go on and on.....

The Deep End

Poetic, lush and breath-taking suspense drama
A movie I loved so much that I actually stayed on my treadmill till it was over, extending my usual hour-long workout into 2 hours (and I'm paying the price today, ouch!)
From the opening scene to the last credit, you won't be able to tear your eyes from the screen. Tilda Swinton, the star and focus of this film, is perfect in the role of a woman trying to protect her family from tragedy while maintaining her daily routine.
A brief summary: Her adolescent son has been piecked up by a manipulative man and then the man tries to blackmail the boy's mother for money. Afterwards, he dies in cirucmstances that make the boy a possible suspect - although he is, in fact, innocent (I'm not giving anything away here; all of this is revealed early on in the movie).
Swinton is calmly focused (most of the time), single-mindedly determined in her quest to hold everything together in the face of nearly insurmountable odds. She is equally determined to make sure her family - son, 2...

Intense, enveloping, gorgeous
I saw the movie "The Deep End" yesterday and it was just stunning- probably one of the most beautiful, perfect films I have seen. It was intense, tragic, and provocative. The whole film takes place around water, and the colors of the film seems bathed in blue. I just can't describe how much I loved everything about it- the characters, the scenery, the pacing...

Tilda Swinton, who played the main character in this movie, was breathtaking. I haven't been as inspired by a performance since I saw Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth", and those of you who have known me for a while understand just how blown away I was by Swinton. Why isn't she in a million films?!

I'm reading a lot of personal reviews on the internet and it seems like most people don't agree with my glowing review of "The Deep End", which is a shame. Even thought the critics tended to really like it, more films like it won't be made unless the audience responds well. I guess it requires some...

A Mom's Gotta Do What a Mom's Gotta do
If someone had asked me who I thought should play the mother-in-peril role of Margaret Hall in "The Deep End" I would not have listed Tilda Swinton who heretofore has made a career of playing far-out characters as in "Orlando" in which she played both a man and a woman whose lives evolve over the course of several hundred years. Be thankful I wasn't asked, for Tilda Swinton gives the performance of her lifetime in this film directed by the duo of David Seigel and Scott McGehee. Set in the Lake Tahoe/Reno area, the plot of "Deep End" is straight out of film noir and as such usually doesn't allow for much in the way of delving into a characters personality or psychology. All the chracters in a film noir are archetypes: cool blond Grace Kelly in "Dial M for Murder" or Robert Mitchum as the tough, hard-drinking detective in "D.O.A." Seigel/McGehee use the film noir tradition as a jumping off point and layer on the shadings and angles...

Bob the Builder - Scrambler to the Rescue

great
This is a great dvd, my 3 yr old really loves it. The DVD is approx 50 mins long has 3 episodes....Scrambler to the rescue .... Scrambler and the colorful cave ... and scrambler in the doghouse. the first episode is quite long ... approx 30 mins. It introduces Zoomer the snowmobil and RV (don't know if they will be regulars). Seems as if they changed Bob's voice once again ... not a problem for me though.

no Greg Proops!
I enjoyed the episodes on this DVD, but I was disappointed to find out that Greg Proops did not do the voice of Bob the Builder, as he did when these aired on PBS. The replacement voice was all right, but boring.

Disappointed
I bought this for my son, who loves snowmobiles and Bob the Builder. I thought this would be great. It wasn't. Scrambler and Zoomer behave horribly through most of the movie only to come to their senses towards the end of the movie. It's too much bad behavior to watch again.

D.O.A.: Dead or Alive

"Girl Power" collides with "Mortal Kombat"..A FUN Watch!
"D.O.A.: Dead or Alive" as everyone knows is based on the Video game franchise of the same name. This film was released in mid-2006 in Asia before in the U.S. possibly because of the larger market for video game inspired movies. For this reason, I managed to own the region-3 Asian release (image by S. L. Bledsoe in Amazon) even before the movie hit U.S. theaters. Directed by Corey Yuen (Transporter, So Close) an acclaimed Martial arts choreographer, (although Corey's not as renowned as the legendary Yuen Woo-Ping) D.O.A. looks promising. After all, Jet Li quoted Corey Yuen In Black Belt magazine as "..if I need something fresh, I go to Corey Yuen."

A tournament called D.O.A. is being held in a remote Island by a man named Donovan (Eric Roberts). Three beautiful but lethal women are invited to compete. Tina (Jaime Pressley), Kasumi (Devon Aoki), and Christie (Holly Valance). Each of the three female leads have their own motivation and has their own baggage to carry. Once...

crap review on Netflix, but it was better than that
After reading all the 1 star reviews on Netflix, I still watched the trailer. Then I found out the director of the Transporter did this movie too. So....I just had to check it out.

It was fun.
I'm not going to own it, but it was fun and much better than Ultraviolet.

- Fast action.
- Acrobatic martial arts.
- Gorgeous girls all around (so much better looking than the Charlie's Angels trio and they had Sarah Carter who I just loved when I first saw her in the tv show Smallville)
- Eric Roberts as a bad guy on the tv show Heroes and a bad guy here. He's perfect for those types of roles.
- Great sets that get smashed to pieces
- Lots and lots of fighting that is so unrealistic you laugh at the silliness of it, but love it at the same time

If it wasn't for all the scantly clad bodies and sexual themes, this no-blood fight movie would have been rated PG.

Yes, everyone who gets slashed by a sword just falls down with...

Pleased
I might be in the minority here, but great martial arts choreography + hot babes + campy storyline = good times to me. This was a must have if you enjoy martial arts flicks, and can find a sense of humor. A lot of people also didn't like Kung Fu Hustle, which I thought was brilliant.

Joy Ride

One ride you should not miss!
I'm happy to report that Joy Ride is NOT just another teen slasher movie, nor is it a Scream clone, instead, it is one of the better thriller/horror film that came out of Hollywood recently. The Thomas brothers while traveling towards New Jersey decided to pull a prank on a stranger by using a CB radio, posing as a female they agreed to a midnight rendezvous with a trucker who calls himself 'Rusty Nail.' Hoping to get a good laugh, the brothers found instead that the joke is on them as they flees from the psychotic stranger out for revenge.

What makes Joy Ride scary is its believability, this kind of thing can actually happen, probably not to the extreme as portrayed in the film, but people do play jokes on each other constantly, and some do get carried away. Composed of a relatively young cast, Steve Zahn (Fuller Thomas,) Paul Walker (Lewis Thomas) and Leelee Sobieski (Venna) did a good job keeping the audiences attention glued to the screen, the pacing was actually well done...

"Duel" For The Millenium
In "Joy Ride", the Director John Dahl (Last Seduction, Red Rock West, Rounders)pounds you right from the beginning and never lets up.

It's "Duel" updated for the millenium and for a contemporary audience.

Two brothers, Paul Walker (Fast and The Furious) and Steve Zahn (Shattered Glass) take a road trip to pick up Walker's college girlfriend (Leelee Sobieski).

Using a CB radio, they play a practical joke on a trucker who turns out to be the biggest movie big rig psycho since Rutger Hauer planted a finger in C.Thomas Howell's french fries.

What the trucker, whose CB handle is "Rusty Nail" does to exact revenge keeps the audience on edge for the film's 97 minutes.

(Note: one of the sequences in the chillingly directed and edited climax cribs gleefully from "Silence of the Lambs")

Dahl pulls of the the difficult challenge of blending scares with a few laughs with little effort..he's a wildly talented director with a taste...

For Good Creepy Fun Give Joy Ride a Try
I am surprised at some of the negative reviews posted here?! I guess some of these folks thought they were taking home "Hamlet" and got "Joy Ride" by mistake??? Sure there isn't much character development, sure you may have seen this premise before, and yes "Joy Ride" is a B-Movie.....and it's a great one! I don't know what more you could ask for with a movie like "Joy Ride", it gave me plenty of chills, and had me really rooting for the two brothers who get on the wrong side of a homicidal truck driver. "Joy Ride" may resemble "Duel", "Breakdown", "Highwaymen" or any one of a hundred thriller "road" movies, but the story is definately edge-of-your-seat fun, and worth adding to your collection if you are a horror fan. Within the first 10 minutes you get sucked into this thriller and it does not let go. Ted Levine is perfect as Rusty Nail (you forget how menacing he can be after watching him as Stottlemeyer on "Monk"), and if Levine's voice oozing through the cb radio doesn't give you...

Re-Animated

A great movie!!!
This movie "Re-Animated" is a great kids movie! I loved it. Dominic Janes is one of my favorite actors, so I enjoyed it. The only parts I did not like was when Jimmy was treating Craig like dirt, and when Craig was taking advantage of Jimmy. Jimmy's dad is very weird, but I got some laughs from him, especially the chocolate milk part in the kitchen, where he put a ton of chocolate syrup in the glass, then poured a tiny bit of milk in there! Ha Ha Ha! Anyway, the whole movie is not what the previews are like, it is a whole different world! Parents having aliens as daughters, kids having brain transplants, and evil geniuses stealing brains!!!

When Jimmy got hit by the train, it looked fake, but I laughed at the site of watching a person fly 20 feet above the air just by getting hit by an amusement park train! I got a lot of laughs from the doctors having Appleday costumes on! Ha Ha Ha! My favorite parts were when Jimmy said sorry to Craig on Live TV, and when Jimmy turned...

Cartoons Get Real
Cartoon Network has done the near-impossible. They've made their very first live-action movie ! With a little animation mixed in.

This is the story of an average boy named Jimmy Roberts (played by Dominic Janes) living a not-so-average life with an astronaut mom, a counselor dad, and an alien sister. It gets even more not-so-average when he gets hit by a train and gets a brain transplant. This, however, is no ordinary brain, it was the brain of famous cartoonist, Milt Appleday (played by Fred Willard who also plays Boogey in "Billy and Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure" movie). Thanks to this new brain, Jimmy now has the unusual ability to see cartoon characters like Golly Gopher, Dolly Gopher, Crocco the Aligator, Tux the Penguin, and many more from the former cartoonist. At first his new cartoon friends that only he can see put him into a lot of trouble in his life including conspiracies with Milt's sinister son, Sonny Appleday (played by Matt Knudsen), but in the end,...

Spy Kids / Spy Kids 2 Island of Lost Dreams
My six year old grandson loves these movies. Well worth the money. The entire movie held his interest and you could hear him laughing and cheering certain parts. Home Run!

Great Transition Movie for Tweens
This movie is exciting and funny and the main characters are children who are coming into their own. The kids are caring and hopeful and they are placed in situations of coping and problem solving. The parents, grandparents, family and friends help teach these children coping and problem solving skills which they incorporate with their own imaginations. My kids love these movies and my daughter especially likes the "concert" at the end of Spy Kids II, when they are on an undercover assignment and their uncle gives them special spy gear to sing and play the guitar. My tweens love these movies.

Kate & Leopold / Serendipity

Lovers delight
Terrific duo of fun films that stress romance. Kate & Leopold is a gem with memorable scenes and a message about true love and finding happiness in life. Meg Ryan is her usual focused businesswoman. But Hugh Jackman steals the show. He's a real hunk.
Serendipity is fun, but not as deep or entertaining as Kate & Leopold. But at the price and linked to K&L, it's worth having. Premise in this film is somewhat goofy, but John Cusak makes it work.

Kate & Leopold
This is a sweet movie and we need more like them. I put this in the same genre as Sleepless in Seattle or While you were sleeping.

Excellent!!!
Two for the price of one! What an amazing deal! It's in great condition and I love it!!!

Wonder Pets - Save the Unicorn

DVD Episode Listing
In case anyone was wondering. This DVD includes: "Save the Unicorn!", "Save the Penguin!", "Save the Swan!", "Save the Puppy!", "Save the Three Little Pigs!", "Save the Owl!", "Save the Bullfrog!", and "Save the Poodle!". Hope this was helpful.

Ok, so there're these baby animals, and they sing opera... and they save even younger animals from trouble?
That's pretty much it. Any fan of theater, operetta and, well singing animals, would be a fan of the Wonder Pets. And I should know, I don't have any kids... That you can prove...

But seriously- for the uninitiated, the Wonder Pets is a half hour series on the Nickelodian network supposedly geared towards the Nick Jr. audience but in actuality attractive to lovers of music theater and, per the above, baby singing animals. Regardless of age. Each half hour installment is (barring one or two exceptions) composed of two smaller fifteen minute mini-sodes wherein Linny the Guinnea Pig, Tuck the Turtle and Ming Ming Duckling (three schoolroom mascots) set out on various rescue missions, after the kids go home. Each episode centers around one central theme: teamwork. The Wonder Pets, being youngsters themselves, must make up for their lack of size by using teamwork, smarts and well, lots of musical numbers.

Each episode is composed like an operetta, steeping...

They Are a "Wonder"
The adorable Wonder Pets are loved by all ages. My younger granddaughter has just turned one and has watched them since she was quite small. Even my 8 year old granddaughter sheepishly confesses that she loves them too. What's not to love? They teach teamwork, helping others, positive attitudes and more. The different circumstances in which they find themselves are creative and there is much to learn about the particular animal they are helping, or the geographical area they will travel to and they teach logical thinking and problem solving. Who can resist "Ming Ming's" baby talk? I highly recommend the Wonder Pets series!!

Ten 'Til Noon

Great film... I enjoyed the hell out of it!
Clever, quirky characters, and excellent acting. Full of sex and violence--not for the easily offended--but delivered with panache, and always in service to the plot. Really funny too... I loved all of the dark comedic moments. An excellent first-effort by screenwriter Paul Osborne. Can't wait to see what's next.

Great Independent Flick
Nicely told story of the same ten minutes as seen from several different points of view. Good twist toward the end. I don't watch many independent movies, but I'm glad I saw this one. It's one to keep for your collection--definitely worth watching again and again.
(btw...it does have sex and violence, so I wouldn't recommend it for persons under 17).

Sensational Noir Thriller!
Saw this one during it's brief theatrical run and was BLOWN AWAY! TEN 'TIL NOON is a highly original modern film noir with a terrific structural gimmick - the entire film takes place in a ten minute time span, between 11:50 and noon. Each time the clock strikes noon, the film rewinds and places us in the point of view of a different character. What we end up with is an incredibly layered web, with each new segment completely turning the story on it's head. The result is invigorating. I've never seen anything quite like it.

TEN 'TIL NOON also has the requisite thriller elements, all in fine form - the femme fatales, the hitmen, the double-crosses, sex and violence galore. But the unique story structure puts it over the edge into great filmmaking. This is a fantastic, highly original indie film that demonstrates there are still new ways to tell a story.

So glad this is FINALLY coming to DVD!!! It bears many, many viewings.

The Firm: Burn and Shape

Not my favorite, but it's growing on me
Overall this can be a terrific workout, and I think given more time as I learn all of the steps for all of the segments I'll be fine.

However....Emily's cueing in the first two cardio segments is not the standard I expect from her or the FIRM. I'm never certain which foot I'm supposed to be stepping on first, I'm never certain which direction I'm supposed to be moving, basically I'm just confused through those parts.

My first two times with this workout were terribly frustrating. It's been better the last two times, but it's a shame that the cueing issue wasn't monitored more carefully for beginners or those of us who are a little awkward with dance.

Pretty satisfied
I got this and Cardio Fusion together.
I was pretty excited to see some new stuff come out, and not have to buy new equipment. And really kind of glad I didn't have to climb on anything.

Overall I'm happy with it, and will be happier yet when I get the steps down, I agree with a previous review that the cueing wasn't quite there as it should have been and that does make it frustrating, but generally I find with Emily's that the choreography transitions smoothly enough I usually can catch up quickly. There is quite a bit of arm-leg movement, so be aware that it may take a few times and repetition to make it all work. I'm with you there, I'm not overly coordinated. I'm still learning this one, but so far I like it and will like it even more once I know where to put myself.

Marred by Poor Cueing
This had all the makings of a Firm routine that I expected to like - approx. 44 minutes and my knees were delighted there was no use of the ever present Fanny Lifter - so I was a little surprised when I found I didn't.

I found the warm-up and initial warm-up to be complicated, especially given their apparent fixation with moving to the side. That would have provided a little more of a learning curve and may have even prevented boredom if the cueing hadn't been so dreadful. Unfortunately, Emily wouldn't tell you what steps were going to be done until you were supposed to be doing them.

Examples of the poor cueing would be that if you're doing lunges, you'd have no idea whether to alternate legs or which leg would lead. You would be told to do an arm lift, but you'd have to watch to see that they were doing it in two parts - lift halfway up and then the rest of the way up. Many times you'd be told how to angle an arm lift, that you should do two quick movements...

Miracle Dogs

Adorable!!
The combination of the little boy with these puppies was enough to make me shed a tear. I bought this movie for my 9-year old son, thinking that he may be almost too old for a traditional "family film". But he loved it as much as I did! The story starts with a family that has just moved to a new city, and they are all trying to adjust to a new neighborhood, new jobs, new friends, etc. Desperate for some companionship, the little boy (Charlie) befriends a three-legged dog, whose leg was removed after the vet discovered cancer, and her litter of puppies. Charlie goes on a quest to find homes for the puppies and their mother before the local animal shelter learns about the homeless dogs. While temporarily housing them in the basement of the hospital, the dogs escape and patients in the hospital begin to get well at an inexplicable rate. The dogs don't have super powers, and the film doesn't have an overtly religious theme. But there is a good message about family and...

REFRESHING PAWS
It would be very easy to dismiss MIRACLE DOGS as a saccharine-sweet unbelievable family film, but that would be rather Grinchish or Scroogish. Sure, it's predictable and filled with every movie cliche of this type of film. But it's heart is so big and in the right place, one can't help but feel a little fuzzy after watching it. The dogs are irresistibly cuddly and little Josh Hutcherson is so believable as the little boy, the movie manages to entertain in spite of its sugary delivery. I've always enjoyed watching Kate Jackson since her days on "Dark Shadows" and although she isn't given a lot to do in this film, her radiance remains. KNOTS LANDING'S Ted Shackelford and MIKE HAMMER'S Stacy Keach likewise are serviceable in their roles, and Rue McClanahan makes a convincing lonely old rich lady. I don't know if there's a lot of validity in "Zoo Medicine" but I do know from my own experience that having a pet can make an important impact on one's life, so MIRACLE DOGS at least...

Great Animal Movie
My son and I really enjoyed this movie! It is heartwarming, inspiring, and spiritually thought provoking; albeit somewhat predictable at times. The really big plus is that the plot is believable and did not anthropomorphasize (give the dogs human traits/capabilities a la Stuart Little and Chiken Run)the dogs. Animal Lovers will rejoice.

Pirates of Ghost Island

Thomas Stiver
This is an amusing, campy pirate film. I think Thomas Stiver should have received a much higher billing in the movie as his is the performance that stands out above the rest. His accent is consistent and authentic, his delivery quite in character and overall performance outshines all others. Mr Stiver's performance shows talent and experience.

Some of the effects were a little cheesey, but overall a great flick to add to your collection.

"We may not be on Tahiti, but this is definitely an island"
This was a strange ride. In the first couple of minutes I was not sure what I stumbled upon, it reminded me of home videos my drunken friends had made. I even thought someone slipped a gag gift into the DVD case. Then I started to pick up on what was going on here, and for that it was fine. It was done for camp. No one was taking anything seriously here. Everything was blown up for bombasity. There were some tremendous lines delivered in deadpan style, wacky costumes, and performers running around on a beach seemingly having a lark.

At times with the pirates on the screen I felt like I was at the local Renaissance Fair. This is not a bad thing. I enjoyed the pirates, I enjoyed the other ramdom entities haunting the Island, and I enjoyed seeing characters i did not like for one reason or another being done away with. A couple of grumbling points - the blood did not just look silly, it was annoyingly so. Like 1st grade play Ceasar just got stabbed quality. Some of the...

Ghosts?????
This is a "straight to video" film. Not much acting, zero "plot", so-so costumes... kind of a bust as to time spent watching it. It's DEFINITELY NOT one I wish to see again!

The Case for Christ

A Great Introduction to Christian Apologetics
Lee Strobel has done the Christian community-and indeed, the world, a service with this DVD. I was extremely impressed with both the content and the production values. The video is a great introduction to Christian apologetics both for the ordinary "man or woman in the pew" and the "ordinary skeptic."

To claims that the film is biased, of course it is. It's an apologetic documentary after all. But it is nevertheless a fairly balanced overview, or summary, of the evidence for the truth claims of the NT. This documentary isn't any more biased than the TV documentaries that usually air on the cable channels (A&E, THC, DSV, TLC, etc.) at Christmas and Easter which are typically aimed at a popular audience and biased against the truth claims of the NT and which usually cater to the sensational and bizarre. Strobel's DVD should serve as a nice counterpoint to all the popular sensationalist documentaries out there. True, the film doesn't get too technical, however perhaps it...

A logical look at the Gospels
Lee Strobel is a well-educated legal journalist who sets out to prove that Christianity is false. He admittedly feels threatened when his wife becomes a Christian and says that he is afraid of losing her. Strobel constructs a method of investigating the case for Christ just as he would in a court of law. He gathers evidence from Christian scholars and puts hard questions to them as to the validity of the Bible and Jesus' claims of being the Messiah. The viewer is taken on the step-by-step journey which Lee Strobel made which converted him from atheism to Christianity. This kind of presentation is very appealing to those of a logical and systematic nature. It is made even more powerful by the fact that Lee Strobel's wife relates what she went through while her husband was on his quest for truth. The one important point which he failed to make is that no one can absolutely prove that Jesus is who is said he was. That would negate the need for faith which is an essential element...

Quality Technical Presentation, but Lacks Depth
This DVD is technically better than most Christian multimedia products trying to prove that Christ is the Son of God. It does not suffer from the quality of most subculture Christian DVDs; however, this DVD is more about Lee's conversion story than it is an in-depth examination of the evidence. While I understand the need to provide a quick "reasons to believe" for the general public, it would have been nice if this DVD had a real strong 2-3 hour featurette examining the evidence piece by piece.

As a conversion story, this DVD works well enough. Both Lee and his wife are featured and many different scholars appear for quick explanations on certain topics that deal with the resurrection and reliability of the Gospels, etc. There are philosophers William Lane Craig and J.P. Moreland as well as recognized N.T scholars Craig Blomberg and world famous N.T. Wright who make appearances arguing or providing evidence on certain subjects. All in all, this is a good DVD for quick...
